Holiday Movie Time at St Christopher's

Thursday, 10 July 2025

A heartwarming and theologically rich afternoon unfolded at St Christopher’s Anglican Church today, as children, parents, and some members of the church family gathered in the Parish Hall for a special Movie Time from 1:00 pm to 3:30 pm. Held during the second week of the school holidays, the event featured the beloved film The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, based on the classic book by C S Lewis.

The timing of the event proved ideal, with many children available during the break. A good number of families turned out, with children excitedly settling in for the movie and enjoying the snacks and drinks lovingly prepared for them. Some adults and parents also stayed and joined in the experience, making it a wonderful multigenerational gathering.

More than just entertainment, the movie offered a profound illustration of the Christian faith. Aslan’s sacrificial death in place of Edmund served as a moving illustration for Christ’s redemptive work on the cross. Aslan’s resurrection, too, pointed powerfully to the hope and victory found in Christ’s triumph over death. One of the most memorable and theologically rich moments came when Aslan explained to Susan and Lucy the deeper truth behind his return to life:

“It means that though the Witch knew the Deep Magic, there is a magic deeper still which she did not know. Her knowledge goes back only to the dawn of time. But if she could have looked a little further back… she would have known that when a willing victim who had committed no treachery was killed in a traitor’s stead, the Table would crack and Death itself would start working backward.”

This moment, like many others in the film, helped convey the depth and wonder of the Christian message in a way that children could grasp and adults could reflect on.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who attended and helped make the event possible. Special thanks go to Samantha Swafford and Mary Griffiths for their excellent organisation and for lovingly serving the children throughout the afternoon.

It was a beautiful afternoon of storytelling and gospel truth – woven together through the timeless tale of Narnia.
