The following intercessions were offered at our Midweek Holy Communion Service on Wednesday, 17 December 2025. They are shared here so that members of our wider church family may continue to hold these concerns before God in their personal and family prayer times. As we approach Christmas, may these prayers help us remain united in intercession for our church, the wider Church, our world, and all who long for the peace and joy of Christ.
Intercessions
Gracious God, we pray for our parish at this time of transition. We ask your wisdom and guidance for the Parish Nominators and the Diocesan Nominators as they begin the process of advertising the vicar vacancy. We also pray for our Christmas services, and for all who are involved in leading, serving, and welcoming others at this special time. May all that we do bear witness to the joy and hope of Christ.
For the Church in our diocese: We pray for the Reefton and Grey Valley Mission Unit. We give thanks for the faithful ministry of Hilary Ladds, their lay minister. We ask that you would draw more people to seek you, to grow in faith, and to become part of that worshipping community. Strengthen and renew them by your Spirit.
For global mission: We pray for the church in Malaysia. We give thanks for the recent court ruling that has acknowledged responsibility for the disappearance of a Christian pastor. We pray for truth, justice, healing, and peace, and for your people to remain steadfast in faith and hope.
For those affected by violence and terror: We pray for the victims and families of the terrorist incident in Sydney over the weekend. We commend to your mercy those who have lost their lives, and we ask your comfort and peace for all who mourn. We pray for the wounded and traumatised, for first responders and medical staff, and for all who are shaken by this act of violence. We hold before you the Jewish community and all communities living with fear and grief. Bring justice, healing, and reconciliation, and turn hearts away from hatred and evil toward your peace.
For the suffering Church: We pray for all who suffer for the sake of the gospel, especially for the church in Uganda. Give courage to those who are persecuted, comfort to those who are afraid, and faithfulness to all who bear the name of Christ under trial. May your light shine in the darkness, and your joy sustain your people.
Merciful Father, accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.
